Create a charming and low-growing carpet in your aquarium with Cryptocoryne parva, the smallest of the Cryptocorynes. This delightful plant features small, round to oval, light to medium green leaves, forming a dense and attractive foreground or midground carpet in smaller setups. Its relatively slow growth and manageable size make it a popular choice for nano tanks and detailed aquascapes.

Key Features:

  • Smallest Cryptocoryne: Ideal for nano tanks and creating detailed foregrounds.
  • Attractive Light to Medium Green: Offers a fresh and natural green hue to the aquascape.
  • Slow Growth: Requires less frequent trimming and is generally easy to maintain its size.
  • Adaptable: Tolerates a range of water parameters.
  • Carpet Forming: Spreads slowly via short runners, gradually forming a dense carpet over time.

Planting and Care:
Cryptocoryne parva is best planted directly into a nutrient-rich substrate. Planting individual plantlets with a small amount of space between them will allow them to spread and form a cohesive carpet. Like other Cryptocorynes, it may experience "Crypt melt" (sudden leaf die-off) when introduced to new tank conditions, but it usually recovers and sends out new growth. Avoid drastic changes in water parameters to minimize the risk of melt. Its slow growth rate means patience is key to establishing a full carpet.

Add a touch of delicate greenery to your foreground with the charming and compact Cryptocoryne parva.

  • Region/Origin: Sri Lanka

    Growth Rate: Slow

Height at Maturity: Typically reaches only 2-5 cm (0.8-2 inches) in height, forming a compact carpet.

Light Demand: Low to Medium. While it can survive in low light, moderate lighting will encourage denser growth and a more vibrant green coloration. Avoid intense direct light, which can sometimes promote algae growth on its slow-growing leaves.

CO2 Requirements: Low to Medium. Cryptocoryne parva can grow well without supplemental CO2, making it suitable for low-tech setups. However, adding CO2 can promote faster growth and potentially a denser carpet.
